About THIS PROJECT
Completed in 2025, the Land’s End Residence on San Juan Island offers panoramic views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the snowcapped Olympic Mountains. Set in a windswept, end-of-the-road enclave, the site is just steps from a beloved local beach cove.
A functional breezeway - serving as both laundry and boot room - connects the main house to the garage. The home’s shed roof is oriented toward the primary vistas, allowing natural light to fill the interiors through expansive stacked windows by Island Sash & Door.
Exposed, cantilevered beams - expertly stained by Terry Ogle Painting - introduce a sense of structural clarity and warmth, complementing the walnut cabinetry crafted by longtime partner Joe Cooper Design. Bright white Caesarstone countertops provide a refined contrast to the rich wood tones.
The extra-wide Contemporary Thermal Simpson entry door establishes a strong architectural statement, echoed in the design of the garage doors installed by San Juan Garage Door.
Exterior materials were selected for both durability and visual cohesion. Cedar Country Lumber siding and tongue-and-groove soffits with metal accents create a unified, modern aesthetic. The decking is constructed from Garapa, a South American hardwood valued for its resilience in waterfront environments. Landscape design by Garden Artisan Landscapes features oversized pavers and carefully composed plantings, enhancing the home’s connection to its natural surroundings.
With a combination of metal and fiber cement siding, the residence is well-equipped to withstand the island’s demanding coastal winters. Strategically placed cedar-clad walls further define and protect the sheltered front entry, adding depth and texture to the home’s exterior composition.
